Places to Stay: Cruz Bay

Uncategorized / Vacation Rentals / August 17, 2022

The tiny island of St John is divided in half by the US Virgin Islands National Park. With Cruz Bay on one side and the more remote Coral Bay on the eastern side of the island. Visitors will discover that each has its charms and each side has it’s fans. So, how to choose Cruz Bay vs Coral Bay? That’s easy! Coral Bay is less developed. There’s a slower pace to things. You’ll find fewer restaurants, bars and shops, and no gas station or pharmacy. Cruz Bay is quite the opposite. You’ll find a bustling hub of activity. Narrow streets lined with colorful shops, restaurants and bars. The ferry dock produces a steady stream of foot traffic and safari taxis line the way waiting for tourists.

First time visitors and repeat guests that enjoy evenings out with lots of restaurant and bar choices will appreciate Cruz Bay. It’s convenient … lively atmosphere and you’re just 10-15 minutes from most of the famous North Shore beaches!

Cruz Bay – deciding where to stay?

First, decide on a budget. Most vacation rentals, B&Bs, small inns and resorts have two seasonal rates. High Season, typically starts in mid December and runs through mid April. Rates average 30% higher for peak months. Expect to pay a premium for Holidays. Low Season, starts in mid April and runs through the first half of December. Expect to save 30% or more – and keep an eye out for discounts! If your dates are flexible – you might find the perfect place AND save some $$$$.

Low Season Rates avg 30% Less!

Budget vs Seasonal Rates

If your travel plans are flexible  – looks at visiting during Low Season. You can usually save hundreds or even thousands of dollars by visiting during lower rates. Or, as some guests do … take advantage of the lower rates by renting an amenity filled villa that would be out of budget during High Season!

Your Travel Style

What types of features and amenities appeal to you? Is an ocean view at the top of your list? Enjoy a dip in a pool before going out for dinner? Want the convenience of walking to shops, restaurants and bars? Is this a family vacation and you’re looking for kid-friendly options? Or perhaps you or a travel companion have mobility limitations and require a handicap accessible place to stay? Whatever your style or requirements – make a list and rank them …

Private Villa vs Condo vs B&B vs Resort

Each type of accommodation offers its guests a unique experience. Those seeking luxury, amenities, and privacy will likely choose a private vacation villa rental. With over 600+ rentals on St John to choose from you’re sure to find a perfect match! Those looking for a more intimate, budget friendly experience should check out St John’s B&Bs and small inns. And for those seeking a resort experience – with spa, gym, child care, restaurants/bars, water sports all conveniently located within one complex – you’ll want to check out the options at The Westin St John.
